Many business owners in Kuching have seen at least one of these:
- A customer searches your shop name on Facebook and finds a page that stopped in 2021. The last post is still the opening promotion.
- A customer asks on WhatsApp: “Are you still open?”
- The shop next door has photos, reviews and replies to comments, so the customer compares and picks them.
- You are running ads, but people who tap through see a quiet account, don’t trust it, and don’t message you.
- You know you should post, but running the business leaves no time.
The problem is usually not your product. Before contacting you, customers “check” your social media first, and what they see is not enough to make them feel safe.
1. Why do your social media accounts matter so much?
1. Before they WhatsApp you, customers check that you are real. Many people now look up a shop on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok first: is it open, are there real customers, does it look reliable? Your account is your first impression.
2. Ads send people to your account. When you run Facebook ads or TikTok ads, many people tap into your profile first. If it looks empty, you pay for the click but they don’t message you.
3. Reviews and comments are other people speaking for you. When the owner says it’s good, customers discount it. When other customers say it, people believe it more easily.
4. Complete details save you from answering the same questions. With opening hours, address, phone and a WhatsApp button clearly shown, customers don’t need to ask “What time do you open? Where are you?”
2. Managed vs unmanaged: what do customers see?
| Managed account | Unmanaged account | |
|---|---|---|
| First impression | Recently updated, clearly still open | Last update years ago, looks closed |
| Details | Hours, address and WhatsApp easy to find | Have to message to ask, or details are out of date |
| Reviews and comments | Real customer reviews, owner replies | No reviews, comments ignored |
| Short videos | Shows products, the shop and the work | None, or very old |
| Customer’s next step | Feels safe, sends a WhatsApp | Hesitates, checks a competitor |
3. How to manage each of the three platforms
Facebook Page
- Fill in everything: category, opening hours, phone, address (write the area clearly, for example “Gala City, Kuching”) and a WhatsApp button.
- Turn on Recommendations so customers can leave reviews.
- 2–3 posts a week is enough. Consistency matters most.
- Rotate your content: products or services, behind the scenes, real customer stories (ask the customer first), FAQs and promotions.
- Try to reply to messages and comments the same day.
- Use your official logo as the profile photo and the same name as on Facebook.
- Say clearly in your bio what you do and where, and add your website or WhatsApp link.
- Sort Highlights into groups: prices, work samples, customer feedback, location.
- Use Reels often. Short clips of the shop, products or how you make things are enough.
TikTok
- Use a TikTok Business Account, with your area and contact details filled in.
- Steady beats perfect: the same style at a regular pace works better than one polished video now and then.
- Reply in the comments. Common questions can be answered with a video.
One rule for all three: keep your brand name, logo and phone number the same as on your Google Business Profile and website, so customers and search engines don’t get confused.
Account checklist
Take 5 minutes and tick what you already have:
4. Why ask customers for reviews?
Reviews show new customers that real people have used you, and help your shop get found and trusted in search.
How to ask: the most natural moment is right after the job is done and the customer is happy. Prepare a QR code or link (Facebook Recommendations or Google reviews) for your counter, or send it to the customer. A WhatsApp follow-up could read:
Hi, thank you for choosing us! If you have a moment, could you leave a few honest words about your experience on Facebook or Google? It really helps us. Thank you 🙏
On Instagram and TikTok, customer comments and posts that tag you also count as reviews. Ask before you repost a customer’s content.
Reply to every review, including bad ones. For example:
Thank you for your feedback, and we’re sorry this time didn’t meet your expectations. We’d like to understand what happened and improve. Could you WhatsApp us?
A calm, polite reply often makes other customers trust you more.
What not to do: don’t buy fake reviews, and don’t trade discounts or gifts for good reviews. It breaks Meta’s rules (see Meta Community Standards: Spam), can hurt your account if found, and costs you customers’ trust.
5. Running a promotion or event? How to get more people to see it
- Announce on all three platforms at once, with the same images and wording so customers aren’t confused.
- Pin the promotion post so it’s the first thing visitors see.
- Count down with Stories or Reels, with a reminder a few days before.
- Ask customers to share or tag you: sharing the post is fine, but don’t reward people for good reviews, follow each platform’s rules, and only promote real offers.
- Update your Google Business Profile with an event or offer post.
- Send a WhatsApp broadcast to past customers who agreed to receive messages.
- Add ads when you need more new customers: organic reach is limited. To reach more people nearby, consider Facebook ads or TikTok ads.
6. When does it make sense to hand it to a professional team?
- You know you should manage your accounts, but never have the time.
- You are running ads and want your account to support them, so more people feel ready to message you.
- You want all three platforms, but don’t know what to post on each.

FAQ
Why should I manage a Facebook Page?
Because before customers contact you, they usually check your page to see whether you’re open and reliable.
How many times a week should I post?
2–3 times a week is enough. What matters is keeping it up over time.
Do I also need Instagram and TikTok?
If your customers use those platforms, yes. Short videos help customers see your products and shop faster.
Can I offer discounts in exchange for good reviews?
No. Rewarding people for good reviews or buying fake reviews breaks platform rules and damages trust.
How should I handle a bad review?
Reply calmly and politely, acknowledge the problem and invite the customer to talk privately. Other customers will feel more reassured when they see it.
